Chia Yun Hu: Multidisciplinary Art, Painting, and Sculpture

Chia Yun Hu is a Taiwanese multidisciplinary artist currently based in Paris, where she continues her practice of blending visual arts with the written word. Her artistic journey has spanned several major European cities including London, Antwerp, Brussels, and Bergamo, originating from her hometown of Taipei. Chia Yun Hu holds a Master's Degree in Menswear Fashion Design from the University of the Arts London, a background that informs the intuitive language of femininity and form present in her work. The practice of Chia Yun Hu encompasses painting, sculpting, and drawing, utilizing a diverse range of materials such as oil paint, acrylic, oil pastel, graphite, clay, and plaster. Her work is deeply rooted in personal experience, yet it transcends the individual to touch upon universal themes of stillness, solitude, and belonging. She often explores the bond between people and the objects they surround themselves with, viewing everyday items as silent companions that hold memories and observe the passage of time. A recurring element in the work of Chia Yun Hu is the exploration of femininity, shaped by her upbringing in a four-generation female household. This influence is visible in the bodies and forms she creates, often characterized by gestures of holding and receiving. Her art has been exhibited internationally in galleries across London, Istanbul, Bordeaux, and Taichung, and has been featured in publications like Young Space and Ladies Drawing Club. In addition to her visual works, Chia Yun Hu integrates writing into her practice, capturing the textures of memory and emotion through self-published books and poetry.
