Gabrielė Černiavskaja's creative work

Gabrielė Černiavskaja | Architect and Exhibition Designer

Gabrielė Černiavskaja is a Vilnius-based spatial practitioner, architect, and artist whose multidisciplinary work bridges architecture, contemporary art, and research. Currently the chief architect for the Contemporary Art Center (CAC) in Vilnius, Gabrielė Černiavskaja focuses on spaces that resist intended functions, such as those marked by trauma or neglect. Her practice is informed by diverse theoretical frameworks, including crip theory, forensic architecture, and critical design, treating space as a reactive and political body. Her project Disorder Manual explores dysfunction as a tool for spatial care and adaptive imagination. Gabrielė Černiavskaja has curated significant projects like the Politics of Space symposium and was involved with the Architektūros fondas and Rupert's Alternative education program. Her work often utilizes sound, performance, and object design to intervene in gallery infrastructures and communal architectures across the Baltics and Europe. Through architectural prosthetics and narrative interventions, Gabrielė Černiavskaja tests how deviant spaces adapt without erasure, emphasizing the importance of coexisting with instability. Her approach to spatial design is processual, shaped by real-world conditions rather than ideal scenarios, resulting in unique gallery environments and temporary structures.
