Galina Bakinova's creative work

Galina Bakinova | Visual Artist, Illustrator and Animator

Galina Bakinova is a distinguished visual artist, illustrator, and animator whose multidisciplinary practice bridges the gap between traditional graphics and modern digital media. Originally from Russia and currently based in Podgorica, Montenegro, her work is deeply informed by her personal experience of forced migration which began in 2022. This central theme of displacement permeates her portfolio, where she utilizes graphics, animation, and physical objects to investigate states of alienation, instability, and the loss of social connectivity. Drawing inspiration from the aesthetics of surrealism, Bakinova examines the fragile emotional landscapes that emerge under conditions of extreme uncertainty. Her artistic inquiry focuses on moments of silence, suspension, and the "in-between" spaces of human experience. Beyond her creative practice, Galina is committed to academic excellence in the arts; she is a Master’s student in the Theory of Contemporary Art at the University of Donja Gorica and has pursued advanced studies in Art History at KU Linz in Austria. Her professional career is marked by participation in numerous international festivals and exhibitions across Europe, including the Festival of the One-Minute Film and IDFF Artdocfest. Whether through street art projects in Sutomore or video art laboratories, Bakinova continues to push the boundaries of contemporary visual storytelling. Her work serves as a poignant reflection on the human condition in an era of global movement, offering viewers a profound look into the psychological impacts of change and the search for stability in a shifting world.
