Azusa Matsukubo: Graphic Design, Publications & Research-based Visual Work

Azusa Matsukubo is a Japanese graphic designer based in the Netherlands, working across multimedia, web, print, and publication design. Her practice combines structured graphic systems with research-based approaches, developed through writing, material experiments, and self-initiated projects. Alongside her independent work, she collaborates with clients on branding, editorial, and publication design, translating concepts, identities, and narratives into clear and considered visual forms. She approaches these commissions with a research-driven perspective, aiming to articulate underlying ideas while maintaining visual clarity and precision. Her work focuses on the materiality of images, screens, and language, examining how visual media functions not only as a carrier of information but as a physical and technological artefact shaped by infrastructures, formats, and processes. Her portfolio includes book design, poster series, installations, and experimental publications that move between digital and physical formats. Alongside commissioned work, she continues to develop independent projects that extend her research into publishing and exhibition contexts.
