Atman One: Visionary Chinese Contemporary Art and Abstract Painting
Atman One, the artistic pseudonym for Hao Fangyuan, is a prominent Chinese contemporary artist whose multidisciplinary practice spans painting, performance, installation, and video. Born in 1984 in Dandong and currently based in Shanghai, Atman One has established a unique artistic voice centered on the principle of 'All Is One' and the seamless linking of past and present. His work is characterized by a deep engagement with traditional Chinese cultural foundations, transformed through the lens of modern aesthetics and global themes. An alumnus of the Lu Xun Academy of Fine Arts, Atman One shifted toward independent artistry in 2003, focusing on the evolution of contemporary art within Chinese traditions. His portfolio includes significant series such as 'Earth Movement,' 'Oneness,' and 'Strength,' often utilizing traditional pigments on rice paper or acrylic on canvas to achieve profound abstract expressions. Beyond the canvas, he is celebrated for his 'Art Live' and performance series, including 'Genesis' and 'Upgrade Dimension,' which often incorporate ritualistic and cosmic themes. Atman One’s influence extends into the academic and institutional spheres, having served as an Extramural Master's Supervisor at Shanghai Donghua University and as a visual art consultant for major festivals. His work has been exhibited internationally, from the UN Headquarters in New York to the Florence International Art Biennale, consistently exploring the connection between human consciousness and the universe. His approach seeks to empower individuals as rulers of their own destiny, reflecting a philosophical depth that merges art with life and spiritual exploration.
