Aslıhan Kaplan Bayrak | Contemporary Artist & Painter

Aslıhan Kaplan Bayrak is a contemporary artist based in Pendik, İstanbul, whose creative practice centers on the philosophical connection between personal identity and spatial perception. She operates on the premise that the perception of existence is fundamentally tied to space. Aslıhan Kaplan Bayrak investigates the tension between cosmos and chaos, working within the limits of order and disorder to provoke thought. Her visual language is characterized by the use of reflections, curves, and intersecting lines, creating multi-layered spatial compositions that challenge traditional perceptions of time and environment. Her body of work includes notable series such as Yıldız-Ada, Düğüm Kayıtları, Bahar Yerli Yerinde (2019-2022), and Mekan İçre (2017). Other significant projects include Merdivenler, Nature or Else? (2014-2017), and explorations of historical sites like Ayasofya and Yerebatan. Aslıhan Kaplan Bayrak also works with engravings (Gravürler). By manipulating spatial awareness, her paintings often create a sense of discomfort intended to encourage the audience to re-examine their relationship with the natural world. Established in its current form around 2021, her studio practice reflects a deep inquiry into the spirit of place. Her works serve as a bridge between the abstract conceptualization of space and the tangible reality of the viewer's surroundings.
