Andrea Grau: Contemporary Multimedia Art and Painting
Andrea Grau is a Peruvian multimedia artist, born in 2001, currently based in Lima, Peru. Her artistic practice is deeply invested in the exploration of interior human processes, such as memory, affections, and emotions, while simultaneously addressing exterior concepts like identity construction, belonging, displacement, and resilience. Grau’s work is characterized by an abstract, gestural, and rhythmic language, often incorporating a symbolic and personal calligraphy that serves as a tool for reflecting on communication and emotional climates in contemporary times. Grau holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Studio from the prestigious School of the Art Institute of Chicago (SAIC), where she was a recipient of the Presidential Merit scholarship. Her academic background is diverse, having participated in both the Painting and Drawing Department and the Fiber and Material Studies Department. This multidisciplinary training is evident in her ability to blend organic and unconventional materials, exploring the narrative potential of fiber, the loom, and interlocutory compositions. Her professional career includes exhibitions at SAIC Galleries in Chicago and ALA Projects' "Act I: The Showcase" in Santo Domingo. By creating sincere manifests and internal atmospheres, Andrea Grau invites the viewer into a state of slow and reflective contemplation, offering a counterpoint to the overstimulation of the modern era. Her art remains profoundly influenced by her cultural background, which guides her investigation into repetition, cycles, and personal experience through multimedia compositions.
