Allan Gorman: Contemporary Realist and Industrial Abstract Painter
Allan Gorman is a structure-driven contemporary painter whose artistic journey began in Brooklyn and evolved through a successful career in advertising and brand marketing. Now based in New Jersey, Allan Gorman focuses on what he describes as abstract compositions nested in the guise of realism. His practice is deeply rooted in the observation of urban undersides, industrial infrastructure, and the poetic tensions created by hard light and shadow. His process often begins with photo safaris, where he uses a camera to record interesting studies of shape and shadow. These references are then transformed into large-scale oil paintings on linen or panel. Allan Gorman’s work is characterized by its technical precision and its ability to elevate common objects—such as rusted train tracks, bridges, and machinery—into compelling works of art. Throughout his career, Allan Gorman has been honored with numerous accolades, including being named one of the 100 Grandmasters of Realist Art by the Salon Des Beaux Arts. He is a two-time recipient of the New Jersey State Council on the Arts Fellowship for Painting. His artworks have been featured in over 120 solo and group exhibitions across the United States and Europe, including prominent shows at the MEAM Museum in Barcelona and the New Jersey State Museum. Through his paintings, Allan Gorman invites viewers to witness the startling beauty and hidden drama found in the everyday manufactured world.
