Alfredo Corrao: Professional Photographer and Heritage Documentation Expert
Alfredo Corrao (born 1964 in Rome) is a distinguished professional photographer and educator who has been a central figure at the Italian Ministry of Culture since 2000. Holding a degree in Cultural Heritage Sciences with an archaeological focus, Corrao bridges the gap between scientific documentation and artistic interpretation. Since 1983, he has dedicated his career to the photography and promotion of Italy’s vast cultural legacy. He is widely recognized for his expertise in innovative image capture and digitization techniques. His institutional contributions include ultra-high-resolution reproductions of iconic works, such as the drawings of Leonardo da Vinci and his Self-Portrait. Notably, he served as the Project Manager for the high-resolution photographic documentation of the Grande Progetto Pompei. Beyond technical documentation, Alfredo Corrao is an active researcher in Computational Photography applied to heritage diagnostics, sharing his findings through conferences and scientific publications. His artistic practice extends into personal projects that examine urban spaces and historical memory. Collections like “Pubbliche intimità,” “Città sospese,” and “In the Middle” showcase his ability to capture the silent dialogues between art, architecture, and the human presence. As a teacher, he shares his knowledge of Photography for Cultural Heritage at institutions such as the High Training School of the IC-PAL in Rome and the Centre for Conservation and Restoration in Venaria. Based in Italy, Corrao continues to contribute to national digitization standards and the strategic development of photography through his collaborations with various heritage foundations and international organizations.
