Alex de Witte | Award-Winning Lighting & Glass Product Design
Alex de Witte is an acclaimed Dutch designer and artist operating from his studio in 's-Hertogenbosch, Netherlands. Educated at the Artemis Academy in Amsterdam, Alex de Witte has developed a unique practice that investigates the universal perceptions of beauty, symmetry, and the 'initial moment' of creation. He is most famous for 'The Big Bubble,' a collection of oversized, mouth-blown glass lamps that have garnered numerous international accolades, including the Red Dot Design Award, Design Plus Award, and the Good Design Award. His work often involves complex glassblowing techniques, frequently realized in collaboration with expert artisans in the Czech Republic to capture the organic, ephemeral nature of air within solidifying glass. Beyond lighting, the portfolio of Alex de Witte includes limited edition sculptures like 'Earth,' the 'Momentum' series, and 'Aurum,' as well as 'Deformed Ceramics.' His creations bridge the divide between functional industrial design and poetic fine art, appearing in galleries, museums, and high-end interiors worldwide. Each piece reflects a commitment to technical mastery and a fascination with how balance and form influence human perception.
